Women's Tennis Continue With Competition at ITA Central Regionals

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team continued play in the ITA Central Regional Championships with the start of main draw singles action.

The Razorbacks started out the day in doubles competition where duo Morgan Cross and Tatum Rice continue to be a force, defeating Whitaker/Kurahashi of Wichita State (8-4) to advance to the Round of 16. Junior Laura Rijkers and her partner Lenka Stara battled Tulsa’s Conde Monfort/Poppe, falling 8-5.

Six Razorbacks saw action today in the singles main draw, earning five wins. Sophomore Morgan Cross went undefeated in her two matches, defeating Iowa State’s Hseih (3-6, 7-6(5), 7-5) and Kuckelman of Nebraska (6-4, 6-2). After a first round bye, Tatum Rice posted a 6-3, 6-2 impressive win over Fuka Nonoyama. Indianna Spink joins her Razorback teammates in the Round of 32, powering through with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win against Minnesota’s Karvouni.

Sophomore Lenka Stara dropped a tough first set (6-0) taking on Minnesota’s Dalila Said, she battled back to win set two (6-7) eventually falling in the third set, 6-4.  Stara will move to the consolation bracket of the main draw, set to take on Elys Ventura of Missouri at 10 a.m. CT tomorrow. Freshman Grace O’Donnell will join Stara in the consolation bracket, dropping her first match 6-3, 6-2.
