Women’s Tennis Fall to No. 2 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Arkansas women’s tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 2 Texas A&M on the road Friday. The Razorbacks move to 6-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The Aggies took the doubles point to start the match with wins on courts two and three. No. 73 Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell dropped court two to No. 47 Ewing/Goldsmith 6-3. Texas A&M clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Arkansas’ Gomez Alonso/Keller. On court one, No. 23 Spink/Cross were up 5-4 over No. 4 Branstine/Stoiana before the point was clinched.

In singles play, the Aggies clinched the match with three straight wins on courts four, one and six. Junior Lenka Stara put up the first point for the Razorbacks, grabbing her first win over a ranked opponent 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 over No. 80 Smetannikov. Freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso took the second point for the Hogs, with a third-set tiebreak 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 win on court two.

The Razorbacks continue conference play on the road, traveling to take on the No. 34 LSU Tigers on Sunday, March 12 at noon.
