Hosting Championships
When it comes to post-season play, the University of Arkansas campus has become one of the nation’s prime destinations. Since the Razorbacks entered the Southeastern Conference in 1992, Arkansas has hosted 101 conference and NCAA regional and national competitions, furthering its national reputation for both its outstanding facilities and its role as a championships host.
Even with its rich tradition for hosting the penultimate rounds of NCAA competition, the University of Arkansas made history in 2018-19 by hosting the longest and most comprehensive NCAA event in its history. The 2019 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships coming to Northwest Arkansas was the result of a shared vision by John Tyson, Owner of Blessings Golf Club and the University of Arkansas.
That commitment didn’t stop once the championship had been secured. Thanks to the generosity of Tyson Foods and the Tyson Family, tickets for the 2019 NCAA Golf Championships were provided on a complimentary basis for all attendees for the first time in the history of the championship.
Northwest Arkansas was the epicenter of collegiate golf world for two weeks and millions tuned in from around the world to watch the action on The Golf Channel. The benefit of the unprecedented exposure for a golf event in Arkansas will continue to pay dividends for the Razorback program, the University of Arkansas and the entire region.
On the course, Arkansas senior Maria Fassi captured the second individual NCAA women’s title in school history, in leading the Razorbacks to the NCAA match play quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, freshman Julian Perico represented the Razorbacks as an individual in the NCAA Men’s Championship.
In addition to the NCAA Golf Championships, Arkansas hosted a first-round NCAA College Cup soccer match at Razorback Field. The Razorbacks also played host to both an NCAA Baseball Regional and NCAA Baseball Super Regional for the second-straight year. Arkansas hosted more fans than any other campus venue in the 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Arkansas was also home to the 2019 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center and the 2019 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at John McDonnell Field.
Our campus played host to some post-season basketball action as our women’s team played three WNIT games in front of some large and loud crowds at Bud Walton Arena.
Didn’t make it to one of the championships hosted on campus this past year? You still have a chance to take part in 2019-20. Arkansas will host two pre-determined championship events and will once again bid on others based on the success of its individual programs.
