Elswick Earns Fourth Consecutive Honor
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Arkansas gymnast Heather Elswick has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for the fourth consecutive year, the league office announced Friday.
Elswick, a senior from Austin, Texas, has been a part of several community service projects and activities this past year and during her entire time at Arkansas. She serves as Vice President of the Arkansas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Elswick is also a three-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and a two-time selection to the NACGC/W All-Scholar Team.
VOLUNTEER PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES
- Helped collect household items for the flood victims in Baton Rouge as part of the Operation Baton Rouge event
- Participated in the Feed My Starving Children event by packaging nutritious meals for hungry children around the world
- Helped in conjunction with Lift Up America to transfer boxes of food and supplies
- Participated in Razorback Canned Food Drive, where supplies were brought to local non-profit organizations
- Participated in the ALS Walk in Bentonville, Arkansas, to raise awareness for people with the progressive neurodegenerative disease.
- Supported the Special Olympics Area Games at Ramsey Junior High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas that featured special needs participants
- Participated in the Sweat Hogs Kickoff program, which connected student-athletes with local youth to remind them to stay active and its importance
- Supervised and taught youth gymnasts during a day of training in the Razorbacks’ Bev Lewis Center for Women’s Athletics
- Took part in Shop with SAAC, where student-athletes raised money throughout the year to purchase holiday gifts for local children
- Handed out awards at the annual Santa Meet in Arkansas’ Barnhill Arena during a youth gymnastics meet
- Participated in other canned food drives around Fayetteville, Arkansas
- Participated in the MLK Youth Day, where student-athletes joined children from schools in the area in games and activities
- Spends a majority of her time outside of class and practice at UAMS Physical Therapy and the Veterans Home, where she assisting patients
