Arkansas Breaks Out The Brooms Again
NCAA Regional Women’s 6K Results | NCAA Regional Men’s 10K Results
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The skies were clear and the sun beaming brightly as Arkansas men’s and women’s cross country teams made swift work of their home course to sweep the NCAA South Central Region Championships for the fourth-consecutive year on Friday morning in Fayetteville.
Since the Arkansas women captured their first title in 1982, both programs have swept 18 regional championships, with a record streak of six-consecutive triumphs from 1990 to 1995.
The Razorback women set the pace for the day, once again led by their young leader, sophomore Devin Clark, who guided the youthful team to the program’s 21st championship as the 6K individual champion. In the first regional appearance of her career, Clark appeared calm and collected, exerting just as much energy needed to ensure Arkansas a claim to the crown. She improved to a new season best of 20 minutes, 17.40 seconds which earned the scholar-athlete All-Region recognition as the meet’s top performer.
With the women’s championship in hand, Arkansas’ men’s cross country contingent made quick moves to ensure their own victory in the 10K competition.
Coming off an All-SEC-meriting performance in his first meet of the cross country season, Iowa Central transfer Andrew Ronoh paced his teammates to victory as the 10K regional runner-up. Well-known for his performance in the aforementioned event on the track, Ronoh masterfully displayed his skill, posting a season’s best over the distance of 30:00.20 seconds to collect a silver medal for his efforts.
