Arkansas Scores Season Best In Win

AUBURN, Ala. – Arkansas scored a season-best 196.375 and rallied in the final rotation, outscoring Auburn 49.125-48.575, for a 196.375-196.075 win over the No. 17 Tigers on Friday night in Auburn Arena.

The Razorbacks (2-3, 2-2 SEC) scored season bests on uneven bars, vault and floor exercise and matched a season best on balance beam, including a 49.200 on uneven bars in the first rotation of the meet.

Jessica Yamzon scored career bests on uneven bars, floor exercise and balance beam for a career-best 39.275 in the all-around and her second all-around title, her third individual title overall.

Samantha Nelson tied for first place on balance beam with a score of 9.900, matching her career high in the event and the highest individual score by an Arkansas gymnast in any event this season. Nelson also scored a season high and tied for the team lead with a 9.850 on floor exercise.

Arkansas started the meet with a 49.200 on uneven bars, its highest team score in any event this season, and led Auburn 49.200-49.050 after the first rotation.

All six competing gymnasts scored a season best in the event, and five of the six scored a career best, led by Hailey Garner, Jessica Yamzon and Michaela Burton with scores of 9.850. Leah MacMoyle (9.825) and Makenzie Anderson (9.800) also set career marks, while Braie Speed (9.825) set a season mark. 

Arkansas also scored a season-best 48.975 on vault and a season-best 49.075 on floor exercise, while Auburn scored a 49.375 on uneven bars and a 49.075 on balance beam to lead 147.500-147.250 heading into the final rotation.

One week after making its move on balance beam in the third rotation of a 195.825-195.325 win over No. 5 Alabama, Arkansas repeated the feat on balance beam in the fourth rotation against Auburn.

The win gives Arkansas two straight wins over Auburn and its first win at Auburn since 2011 and also back-to-back regular-season sweeps of Alabama and Auburn.

  • Arkansas will face three more teams ranked in the top 10 nationally: No. 2 LSU (Feb. 10), No. 3 Florida (Feb. 17) and No. 10 Kentucky (March 3).

Arkansas returns home for back-to-back home meets against No. 2 LSU on Feb. 10 and No. 3 Florida on Feb. 17. Arkansas also hosts a Senior Night tri-meet against San Jose State and Centenary on March 10.
