Razorbacks On The Road Again
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team returns to the road traveling to Alabama for the second consecutive Southeastern Conference away game on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Razorbacks (11-6, 0-4 SEC) are looking for their first conference win and their 21st all-time over the Crimson Tide. Arkansas is 8-7 in Tuscaloosa.
Six different players have scored in double figures in SEC play. Senior Jessica Jackson is Arkansas’ go-to player but opponents have tried to limit her impact on the games. As a result, other players have stepped up including sophomore Malica Monk.
Monk missed the first SEC game with an injury but is averaging a team-best 13.0 points per game in conference play. Sophomore Keiryn Swenson (10.3) also averages double figures. Jackson is averaging 8.5 ppg but leads the team in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds per contest.
Alabama (14-3, 2-2 SEC) is coming off a home loss against Kentucky. They have wins over Ole Miss and Missouri this season.
Sophomore Shaquera Wade scored a career-high 24 points, hitting 11 of her 13 attempts from the floor. She was also 2-for-2 from the free throw line while picking up six rebounds, two assists and one steal against Kentucky on Thursday.
The Opponent
Arkansas leads the all-time series with Alabama 20-14 and has won the last five contests. Alabama is in the middle of a three-game home stand. After hosting Kentucky last Thursday and Arkansas on Sunday, they welcome No. 4 Mississippi State next week. Alabama is shooting well at 42.8 percent on the year. They have a +11.6 scoring margin in all games.
Notable
• The teams met once last year with the Razorbacks winning 69-67.
• Razorback Jessica Jackson had 20 points and Alecia Cooley added 11 in the win in 2016.
• The game was tied when Arkansas drove the length of the court and hit a pull-up jumper with :07 seconds on the clock for the win.
Looking Ahead
Arkansas returns to Bud Walton Arena for back-to-back home games against Vanderbilt (Jan. 19) and Missouri (Jan. 23). Other future home games include Georgia (Feb. 2), No. 5 South Carolina (Feb. 5), No. 24 Kentucky (Feb. 16) and Auburn (Feb. 26).
