Incoming Freshman Joscelyn Roberson Set for Gymnastics Olympic Trials

One of the newest Gymbacks will shine on the highest stage this weekend as incoming freshman Joscelyn Roberson has been invited to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 28-30.

Roberson is one of 16 athletes selected to compete at the meet in Minneapolis, which will consist of two days of competition. Friday’s opening action begins at 6:30 p.m., and day two kicks off Sunday at 7 p.m. The U.S. Olympic Team, comprised of five athletes and four alternates, will be chosen following trials competition.

Roberson heads to the Olympic Trials with World Champions Centre, her club gym out of Spring, Texas. WCC athletes make up nearly a third of the field at the competition, including 2020 Olympians Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles.

The NCAA will be well-represented in Minneapolis, with nine of the 16 already competing in college or committed to a college program. Of the six affiliated schools, four are in the SEC: Arkansas, Auburn, LSU and Florida.

Roberson was named to the Senior National Team for the third time earlier this month after a solid performance at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth. She tied for fourth on floor, placed sixth on vault, and finished 10th all-around.

Joscelyn competed at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, where she earned a gold medal with Team USA and advanced to the vault final before sustaining an injury. She had a fantastic year overall on the event, as she was also the 2023 U.S. champion on vault and claimed the Winter Cup vault crown. She added two silver medals to her collection at winter cup as well on balance beam and floor.

Since her senior debut in 2022, Roberson has earned 23 top 10 finishes across eight domestic competitions and 11 in her four international assignments with Team USA.

Joscelyn’s appearance at the Olympic Trials comes almost exactly 12 years after Arkansas coaches Jordyn Wieber and Kyla Ross were named to the Team USA Squad on July 1, 2012. Wieber, Ross, and their Fierce Five teammates Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney an Aly Raisman went on to win gold in London on July 31, the second-ever for the United States and first on international soil.

Assistant coach Chris Brooks was an alternate on the men’s side in 2012, the first of two Olympics appearances for him. He was again named to the team for Rio 2016 and served as team captain.

This weekend’s action will be broadcast on NBC, with coverage on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Both days will be streaming on Peacock, with individual apparatus streams also available on the platform.
