Mati Waligora Commits to Gymbacks for Sixth Year

The Arkansas gymnastics program continues to reload for 2025 with another big offseason piece as sixth year Mati Waligora has committed to the Gymbacks.

Waligora is no stranger to SEC competition, spending the last five seasons at Alabama. She was a staple in the Tide’s bars, beam, and floor lineups in 2024 and competed in all but one meet on the season. She scored 9.850+ seven times on bars and beam and nine times on floor.

As a senior in 2023, Waligora appeared in all 13 meets for the Tide and had a particularly successful season on floor. She matched her career high of 9.925 on Feb. 3 and scored 9.850+ in nine appearances.

Mati appeared on each event at least five times in her junior campaign, and twice competed all-around in 2022. She set or matched every event’s career high in that season: 9.900 on vault, 9.950 on bars, 9.925 on beam and 9.925 on floor. Her 9.950 mark on March 31 also earned her the NCAA regional bars title.

Waligora’s first full season with the Tide came in 2021. She made the vault lineup 10 times and scored below 9.850 just twice, made nine appearances on bars, and seven on beam.

Mati has been an exemplary student in her time at Alabama and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll five times and is a four-time WCGA Scholastic All-American. She has won the Alabama Fern Hampton Academic Award three years in a row and was also earned the Paul W. Bryant Award at the 2024 Crimson Choice ceremony, “given to the top male and female student-athletes encompassing athletic success, academic success, as well as service to the community.”

Waligora completed a master’s degree in health studies this year and earned her bachelor’s in kinesiology/exercise science in 2023.
