Roberson Named to Team USA as Traveling Replacement Athlete

The Arkansas gymnastics program will be represented by an athlete at the Olympic Games for the first time ever as incoming freshman Joscelyn Roberson was named a traveling replacement athlete for the Paris 2024 squad on Sunday night.

Roberson put together a phenomenal two days of competition at the Olympic Trials in Minneapolis and placed sixth overall with a combined score of 110.975. She also finished in fourth place on vault and floor and tied for first on beam.

Prior to the Olympic Trials, Roberson had never scored 55.000+ plus in all-around competition but earned a mark of 55.475 after Friday’s preliminary competition. The career high held for only 48 hours, as she bested herself with a 55.500 in Sunday’s final.

Seven athletes of the nine total named to the team or as alternates have either competed for or are committed to NCAA programs, including four from the SEC: Arkansas, Auburn, Florida and LSU.

As traveling alternates, Roberson and Leanne Wong (Florida) will head to Paris and can be called upon to replace an athlete for Team USA up until the start of team qualification competition on Sunday, July 28.

Roberson joins head coach Jordyn Wieber (2012) and assistant coaches Chris Brooks (2012, 2016) and Kyla Ross (2012) in representing the red, white, and blue at the Olympic Games, on the team or as an alternate.

Women’s artistic gymnastics kicks off on July 28 in Paris with team qualifications and the team final is on July 30. The women’s all-around final is set for August 1st, and event finals will take place August 3rd (vault), 4th (bars), and 5th (beam/floor).
