Scott Collins recently wrapped up his fourth season as a member of the Razorback coaching staff.
Razorback Soccer completed the 2015 season at 6-11-1. Season highlights included a 2-2 tie in double-overtime against No. 10 South Carolina on Oct. 2, the program’s first result against a top-10 program since 2007; the selection of hybrid defender/midfielder Carly Hoke as the 2015 SEC Freshman of the Year; and senior defender Teni Butler being named by the Razorback Foundation as a Red Tie Co-Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Home attendance was also strong for a second consecutive year, with the all-time attendance mark at Razorback Field topped on Aug. 23 against TCU.
Collins helped lead Razorbacks to a 9-7-6 overall mark in 2014, giving the program its first back-to-back winning season since the 2008, 2009 seasons. Arkansas was also the No. 9 seed in the conference tournament and earned the program’s second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament (second in school history). After picking up a 3-2 overtime victory at Oklahoma in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the Razorbacks fell at No. 3 Stanford, 1-0, in the Round of 32 to end the season.
In 2013, Collins helped guide the team to a 15-8-1 overall record, its first SEC Tournament win in 17 years and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. In its tournament debut, Collins helped lead the team past Oklahoma State and St. John’s to reach the final round of 16. In Collins’ first season as a volunteer assistant coach, the Razorbacks went 8-3 at home, the most wins in a season at Razorback Field.
In addition to a successful season on the field, the Razorbacks also collected several accolades including the NSCAA Team Academic Award. Sophomore midfielder Ashleigh Ellenwood earned Second Team All-SEC and Second Team All-South Region, while Allie Tripp was named SEC Player of the Week. In addition, the Razorbacks ended the season ranked No. 24 in the Top Drawer Soccer Postseason Top 25.
In his first season with the Razorbacks he helped lead the team to a 9-10-1, 6-6-1 Southeastern Conference record that resulted in Arkansas’ first SEC Tournament bid since 2000.
Working toward a career in coaching, Collins has been active in pursuing his coaching licensures over the past several years and has earned a USSF “D” license as well as his NSCAA level I, II and III goalkeeping diplomas. He is currently working on his USSF “C” license.
In his role with the Razorbacks, Collins is expected to assist with daily training sessions, scouting and scouting reports, filmwork, day-to-day operations, game analysis using the Prozone system and setting up and analyzing data from Arkansas’ Polar heart rate monitors.
A Fayetteville, Ark., native, Collins played for Fayetteville High School before advancing his career and playing at the University of Central Arkansas. He immediately joined the coaching ranks after hanging up his boots and guided the ’96 Arkansas Comets Premier boys team to the 2011 championship of the Southern Regional Premier League, the first team from Arkansas to accomplish the task. Collins also led the squad to three straight Arkansas state titles. Other coaching stints have included summer recreational camps, Colby Hale’s Razorback Soccer Camps and elite residential camps.
