Top-Ranked Arkansas Continues Action At Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 1 Arkansas women’s track and field team continued action with the sprint crew in Austin for the Texas Relays, while the distance squad got to work at the Stanford Invitational on Friday.
The day began with Arkansas’ 4-x-100 meter relay crew advancing to tomorrow’s finals. Coming into the weekend the relay team ranked third early on in the outdoor season and will look to improve on a time of 43:40 that it recorded in the Arkansas Spring Invitational last weekend. The squad finished second in today’s prelims and will race in tomorrow’s finals at approximately 1:35 p.m.
Entering the weekend, freshman Janeek Brown was fifth in the nation in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 13:10. She advanced to tomorrow’s finals and will face field that includes three Southeastern Conference foes from LSU that are in the top-20 nationally.
A week removed from tying the school record in the 100 meter dash, Baylark placed fourth in Friday afternoon’s preliminary. Tomorrow’s race will headline two defending indoor national champions in Aleia Hobbs of LSU and Gabrielle Thomas of Harvard who finished first and third, respectively.
At the Stanford Invitational, the Razorbacks posted three top-five finishes as Devin Clark and Carina Viljoen placed fifth in their respective section of the 1,500 meters, while Rachel Nichwitz shaved nearly six seconds off of her previous best time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
