Froholdt On Outland Trophy Watch List
DALLAS — The Football Writers Association of America has announced Tuesday the preseason watch list for the 2018 Outland Trophy presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
For the second straight year, Arkansas senior guard Hjalte Froholdt made the list. The Outland Trophy, in its 73rd year, is presented to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman by the FWAA.
Last Friday, Froholdt was named to the preseason All-SEC Second Team voted on by media in attendance at SEC Media Days.
Froholdt was the second-highest graded guard in the SEC at 85.8 last season, earning a spot on Pro Football Focus’ All-SEC first team. He started all 12 games at left guard in 2017 to run his streak to 25 straight dating back to last season. Froholdt played 89.2 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and didn’t allow a sack across 388 snaps in pass protection.
The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner. Only interior linemen on offense or defense are eligible for the award; ends are not eligible.
