Jackson, Monk, Cooley Pace Elementary Day Win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Malica Monk dropped in 10 first-half points, Jessica Jackson had 20 and Alecia Cooley was in double figures leading the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team to a 71-39 win over Sam Houston State in the season opener at Bud Walton Arena on Friday.

The win moves Arkansas to a perfect 7-0 on Elementary Day with 4,330 fans in attendance for the 10:30 a.m. contest – the third largest crowd for a home morning game. Arkansas went on a 16-0 run holding the Bearkats scoreless for 7:13 in the first quarter and never trailed in the game.

Monk and Cooley both finished with 12 points and Jackson paced the rebounding with eight boards in the win.

Key Moment
Arkansas’ first quarter, 16-0 run set the tone for the game. The run stretched for 6:05, moving the Razorbacks from a 7-4 lead to a 23-4 advantage. Malica Monk scored six of her 10 first half points during the run with Alecia Cooley adding four, Jessica Jackson, Jordan Danberry and Jailyn Mason had two points each.

Arkansas had 16 assists on 24 made baskets. Jailyn Mason dished out five of those with Jessica Jackson adding four. Arkansas got three each from Bailey Zimmerman and Malica Monday and Keiryn Swenson had one assist.
