Razorbacks Roll To Exhibition Win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Behind a balanced scoring effort and a dominant defensive effort, the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team cruised to a 79-32 win over Oklahoma Baptist in its lone exhibition game of the 2016-17 season on Thursday night in Bud Walton Arena.

Jessica Jackson and Jordan Danberry led all scorers with 14 points each. Malica Monk added 13 points and Jailyn Mason had 10 points for the Razorbacks. Defensively, Arkansas held OBU to just 24.5 percent shooting for the game.

The Razorbacks used a 16-0 run over 9:51 that spanned parts of the first and second quarter to turn an 11-10 deficit into a 26-11 lead and would not trail the rest of the way. They also had an 18-0 run in the second half to stretch out their lead.

Arkansas opens the 2016-17 regular season against Sam Houston State on Friday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in Bud Walton Arena.

Trailing 11-10 late in the first quarter, Arkansas finished the frame on a 9-0 run to take a 19-11 lead into the second quarter. In the process, the Razorbacks grabbed their first lead of the game, 12-11, on a Jessica Jackson lay-up and they would not trail for the rest of the game.

Arkansas held Oklahoma Baptist to just 32 points, tied for the fewest points allowed in an exhibition game in program history. Including both regular season and exhibition games, it is also tied for the fewest points allowed under head coach Jimmy Dykes.

• This was the first meeting all-time between Arkansas and Oklahoma Baptist.
• The starters for Arkansas were Jessica Jackson, Malica Monk, Jailyn Mason, Bailey Zimmerman and Alecia Cooley. Jordan Danberry was the first player off the bench.
• Jailyn Mason made her first career collegiate start, while Kiara Williams and Sydney Stout saw their first career collegiate action in the exhibition.
• Ten different players saw action and scored in the contest for the Razorbacks.
• Arkansas had runs of 16-0 (first half) and 18-0 (second half), holding Oklahoma Baptist scoreless for a combined 16:41 of game time during those two stretches.
• Arkansas won the rebounding battle, 55-30, led by Alecia Cooley (11 rebounds) and Keiryn Swenson (10 rebounds).
• Arkansas has now won 13 straight games and also improves to 33-11 all-time in exhibition games.
• The 47-point margin of victory is the second-largest margin of victory in school history and the largest since the 2001-02 season.
