Hogs Fall in Extras, Clinch Program’s First Outright SEC Title

College Station, Texas – In a back-and-forth contest, No. 5 Arkansas’ eight-game win streak was snapped by Texas A&M as the Aggies walked off to a 6-5, nine-inning victory at Davis Diamond Friday night.

Despite the loss, the Razorbacks secured the program’s first outright SEC regular season championship with an Alabama loss to Missouri, putting the Hogs in sole possession of first place permanently.

Seniors KB Sides and Hannah McEwen led the way for the Arkansas offense. Sides belted two base hits, two runs scored, a stolen base and walk at leadoff. McEwen parked a solo home run and single in the two-spot.  Senior Danielle Gibson leveled an RBI double and sophomore Hannah Gammill ripped an RBI single, and Linnie Malkin, Audrie LaValley and Spencer Prigge bolted a base hit each.

Junior RHP Chenise Delce made the start, spinning three innings with five strikeouts. Delce gave up three earned runs on seven hits. Senior RHP Mary Haff pitched in relief, tossing 5.1 innings and compiling six strikeouts while surrendering two earned runs.

How It Happened

Gibson’s grounder to first plated Sides from third to give the Hogs a 1-0 lead in the first. A Gammill RBI single  to left pushed the lead to 2-0.

An Aggie home run in the second tied it at 2-2.

Arkansas responded on Gibson’s ground-rule double to left center to regain a 3-2 lead in the second.

McEwen opened the fourth with a solo home run to extend the lead to 4-2. The Razorbacks grabbed their final run of the inning on LaValley’s bases-loaded walk to go up 5-2.
