#1 Razorbacks are T-2nd After 18 Holes at Fallen Oak

FAYETTEVILLE – No teams were under par, and #1 Arkansas is tied for second after an opening-round, 4-over-par 292 at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational.

Ohio State, which started on the easier of the two nines on #1, made a late charge and was 2-under on its final nine holes to finish with an even-par round of 288. Arkansas is tied with #4 Alabama, #9 Tennessee and #37 Ole Miss. Those top five teams were a combined 26-over par on holes 8 and 9, which served as Arkansas’s 17th and 18th holes of the day.

The 15-team field is bunched up with #12 Illinois and #14 Georgia a stroke behind the quartet tied for second at +5, followed by #36 LSU at +6 and Florida State at +7.

Gerardo Gomez carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for sixth after 18 holes. He had a bogey on his second hole, the par-4 11th, then birdied holes 15 and 17 to close his opening nine at 1-under. He offset two bogeys with two birdies on his final nine holes.

Lev Grinberg is tied for 12th by shooting and even-par 72 Saturday. He was one-under after nine holes with three birdies and two bogeys. He had two bogeys and birdie on his final nine holes.

Thomas Curry was in contention after his opening nine thanks to an eagle on 15 and a birdie on 18. He suffered three-straight bogeys on holes 3, 4 and 5 before rallying with a birdie on 6. However, a double on his final hole put the senior at +1 and dropped him into a tie for 17th.

Niilo Maki-Petaja is tied for 43rd (+4), Guus Lafeber, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 50th (+5) and Erich Fortlage is tied for 63rd (+6).

Round two of three is set for Sunday.
