#1 Razorbacks Take the Lead at Fallen Oak
SAUCIER, Miss. – Top-ranked Arkansas was one of three teams under par in round two and turned a four-stroke deficit into a three-stroke lead after a 1-under-par 287 in round two to take the lead with a 36-hole total of 579 (+3) at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational, played at the par-72 Fallen Oak Golf Club.
Thomas Curry led the Razorbacks’ charge, firing a 3-under 69 to move up 14 spots into a tie for third (142 / -2). Gerardo Gomez carded an even-par round on Sunday and stayed tied for sixth (143 / -1), while Lev Grinberg shot a 73 and is tied for 14th. Guus Lafeber, playing as an individual, posted a 71 on round two and climbed 31 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 29th (148 / +4).
Arkansas played holes 1 through 9 much better in round two, including all five players getting a birdie on the par-5, 6th hole, and was able to take control early. #12 Illinois moved from sixth into second with a second-round, 1-over 289 and sits three shots behind Arkansas at +6. #9 Tennessee, #20 Ohio State and #30 Wake Forest are tied for third at +7. Wake Forest had the round of the day at -4 while #46 South Carolina was 3-under and moved from 11th to sixth at +8.
Curry was cruising through 15 holes with 11 pars and four birdies. He dropped a shot on the par-4, 16th, then finished his round with two pars for his 69.
The final 18 holes will be played Monday.
