#10 Razorbacks Close Regular Season at A&M

FAYETTEVILLE – The 10th-ranked Arkansas men’s golf team will close the regular season by playing at the Aggie Invitational this weekend (April 9-10) at Traditions Club (par 72, 7,227 yards) in Bryan, Texas.

The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Saturday and a final 18 holes on Sunday. The 12-team field features five of the nation’s top 40 teams – #7 Texas Tech, the 10th-ranked Razorbacks, host #23 Texas A&M, #32 New Mexico – as well as Baylor, Houston, Kent State, Little Rock, North Texas, Northern Illinois, and UTSA.

Arkansas has played in the Aggie Invitational six times but not since 2018. Razorback All-American Alvaro Ortiz was medalist at the 2016 tournament. The Razorbacks are making the return this year for two reasons. One, to play one of the more difficult courses in college golf versus a quality field in preparation for the postseason. Two, the Traditions Club is one of the six sites for the 2022 NCAA Regionals.

As the season begins to wind down, the following are a few of the record book updates:

  • Arkansas’ season scoring average of 283.2 is on pace to be a school record (record is 274.40 set in 2019-20)
  • Arkansas has shot under par as a team in five of seven stroke play events, including -29, -28 and -18 twice
  • Arkansas’ 54-hole total of 824 at the Cabo Collegiate is a school record by two strokes
  • Arkansas’ 54-hole total of 835 at the Arizona Intercollegiate ties for 11th-best on the school’s all-time list
  • Arkansas’ -29 in relation to par at the Arizona Intercollegiate ranks 4th-best on the school’s all-time list
  • Arkansas’ -28 in relation to par at the Cabo Collegiate ties for 5th-best on the school’s all-time list
  • Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira has a stroke average of 70.14, which would be a school single-season record
  • Luke Long has a stroke average of 70.48, which currently ranks third on the school’s single-season list
  • Long has nine rounds in the 60’s, which ties for 10th on the school’s single-season list (the record is 14)
  • Fernandez de Oliveira has 16 rounds of par or better, two shy of the school’s single-season top 10 (the record is 24)

After the Aggie Invitational, Arkansas will play in the SEC Championships April 20-24.
