#11 Razorbacks Take Down Georgia in SEC Quarters
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Jacob Skov Olesen was down four through 10 holes but clinched the deciding point with a 1-Up victory to lead #11 Arkansas (#5 seed) to a 3-2 decision over #23 Georgia (#4 seed) in the SEC Match Play Quarterfinals Saturday morning at Sea Island Golf Club – Seaside Course.
The Razorbacks will turn around to face #1 and top seed Auburn in the Semifinals this afternoon. The semifinals will be streamed on SEC Network + starting at 3 pm (CT).
Georgia got on the board first. In a back-and-forth match – which started on the 10th hole, Bulldog Caleb Manuel won the 16th hole and followed with a win on the 17th hole for the 2 & 1 victory.
Arkansas quickly squared the match as Matthis Lefevre defeated Ben Van Wyk, 2&1. Lefevre never trailed in the match. He won their 14th hole to lead by one. After tying the next two holes, Lefevre won the 16th hole with a par and the two tied the 17th hole to give Arkansas the win.
The Razorbacks’ second point came from Christian Castillo in the third match. Castillo led or was tied through the first 16 holes. UGA’s Conner Creasy then won the 16th hole to tie things up. Castillo bounced back by winning the 17th hole before tying the 18th for the win.
Georgia won the fourth match 1-UP. Buck Brumlow was 3-Up over John Driscoll III through 15 holes. However, Dricsoll won the 16th and 17th holes to trim his deficit to one with one to play. The two tied the 18th for the 1-UP Bulldog win.
In the fifth and deciding match, Georgia’s Camden Smith and Olesen tied the first four holes. Smith then won four of the next six holes to lead 4-UP through 10. Olesen then won five straight holes to take a 1-UP lead through 15 holes. The pair tied the final three holes and Olesen clinched the win.
