#13 Razorbacks & Fortlage Finish 2nd at Bryan Bros Collegiate, Host Blessings Collegiate Invitational This Weekend
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three Razorbacks were under par as #13 Arkansas carded a 10-under 274 final round of the Bryan Bros Collegiate, played at the par 71 Solina Golf Club, and improved two spots to finish runner-up with an 18-under 834. Erich Fortlage and Thomas Curry placed among the top 10, second and seventh, respectively, to lead the Hogs.
Arkansas, which played the final eight holes at 8-under, and Fortlage briefly climbed into a share of the lead, but Ole Miss was able to hold off the Razorbacks to win by one stroke.
“We put ourselves in a hole after the first round,” head coach Brad McMakin said. “But I am really proud of the way we fought back and played the final two rounds. Erich, Thomas and Gerry (Gerardo Gomez) played like the proven veterans they are. Them playing those seven holes (11 through 17) at a combined 13-under was impressive.
“As well as we played, you have to give Ole Miss credit,” McMakin said. “Their short game was good all three rounds and made some long putts down the stretch to get the win.”
However, the story of the day was Razorback freshman Neo Berg, who was playing as an individual. The Svanesund, Sweden, native posted a 64 with nine birdies and two bogeys. He birdied three of his first four holes (1, 3 and 4) before dropping a shot on the par-4, 5th. He closed his front nine with birdies on holes 8 and 9. Berg then birdied three of his first four holes on the back nine (11, 12 and 13). After a bogey on 14, Berg answered with a birdie, then parred out for his 64.
Not only was that the best round of the day by two strokes, but he improved his round two score of 86 by 22 strokes. It ties 15 other Razorbacks for low total for 18 holes, trailing a pair of 63s, and ties for the second-best, 18-hole result by a Hog rookie. It was also the best round by a Razorback in eight seasons when Julian Perico had a 6-under-par 64 in the fall of 2018.

Notes:
• Fortlage recorded his third career top-2 finish (a win and two runners-up) and seventh career top-5 finish.
• Curry was 3-over through his first three holes Tuesday, then played his final 15 holes at 7-under with a bogey, five birdies and an eagle. Curry has finished among the top 10 in each of the Hogs’ first two tournaments this season. Curry now has nine career top 10 finishes.
• Gomez had a bogey on his first hole, then was bogey-free with three birdies and an eagle to close his round. His 67 moved him up 27 spots on the leaderboard to finish T-18, his second top-20 finish of the young season and 15 for his career.
• Niilo Maki-Petaja improved five spots in the final round to tie for 26th.
• Lev Grinberg was even par for the second-straight round and improved nine spots to finish T36.
The Razorbacks are back at it later this week by hosting the 7th Annual Blessings Collegiate Invitational, presented by Tyson Foods, Oct. 3-5.
