Arkansas Earns SEC Road Win at Tennessee, 1-0
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Arkansas soccer (5-4-4, 3-1-3 SEC) picked up its first road win of the season on Thursday night, a 1-0 shutout at Tennessee (6-4-3, 1-4-2 SEC).
The Razorbacks extended their unbeaten streak to five straight matches and are unbeaten in eight of their last nine appearances.
How it Happened
Arkansas struck first for the fifth straight match, this time by junior forward Kyndal Ewertz in the 13th minute. The attack started on the other end of the field when sophomore midfielder Natalie Wagner intercepted a pass from the Vols and turned it upfield toward midfielder Zoe Susi. Once Susi crossed midfield, she sent a ball ahead of Tennessee’s back line, then Ewertz broke away and fired to the back post before she was cut off inside the 18-yard box.
The Vols outshot the Hogs 6-1 for the remainder of the half following the goal.
Tennessee continued its attacking pressure after halftime and outshot Arkansas 11-3, with its best chance coming in the 75th minute when goalkeeper Keegan Smith came off her line to punch out a cross. The ball was picked up by another Vol attacker, but by that time, the Razorback defenders built a wall in front of the net and the shot was stopped by senior forward Bella Field.
Smith denied numerous Tennessee attacks from start to finish and turned in five saves.
