Arkansas Falls to No. 21 South Carolina, 4-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-12, 1-8) dropped its match to No. 21 South Carolina (10-7, 5-4), falling 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Carolina Tennis Center.

South Carolina took the lead after grabbing the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Helena Buchwald and Lauren Friedman struck first with a 6-0 win over Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova at the No. 3 position. The Razorbacks bounced back following a ranked victory from Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez over No. 26 Kaitlyn Carnicella and Sarah Hamner. No. 77 Olympe Lancelot and Bella Larsson won on court two with a 6-2 showing against Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell, clinching the doubles point for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina carried its momentum into singles play, taking the first set on all six courts. At the No. 4 position, No. 113 Misa Malkin defeated Koskel, 6-0, 6-1, while Buchwald took down J. Gomez in straight sets on court six. The Gamecocks secured the final point of the match as Larsson bested O’Donnell, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 5 position. On courts one and two, Bienzobas and C. Gomez both fought back to force a third set before their matches went unfinished.

The Hogs will head back on the road to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the Florida Gators on Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m. CT.
