Arkansas Falls to No. 24 Arizona State
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-3) dropped its match to No. 24 Arizona State (5-2), falling 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center.
Arizona State took the lead after grabbing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Sun Devils struck first as Argyrokastr/Tverijonaite claimed a 6-4 victory over Kelly Keller/Carolina Gomez Alonso. The Razorbacks responded with Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell earning a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position. The doubles point came down to court one as Arizona State’s Fontenel/Spaka clinched the point with a 6-4 victory.
The Sun Devils carried their momentum into singles play, taking the first set on five courts. On court three, Argyrokastr defeated Stara 6-0, 6-0, while Spaka took down O’Donnell, 6-3, 6-2. Arizona State secured the final point of the match on court one as No. 77 Morlet bested No. 79 Gomez Alonso, 7-5, 6-1.
The Hogs will return to Billingsley Tennis Center next week to host a doubleheader against Tulsa and Missouri State on Friday, Feb. 16.
