Arkansas Falls to Wisconsin, 4-3
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-2) suffered a 4-3 loss to Wisconsin (5-1) on the road Saturday afternoon at Jayhawk Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks took the early lead after grabbing the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez won 6-2 on court two, while Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova finished it out with a 6-4 victory on three. No. 66 Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell’s match went unfinished at 5-5.
Wisconsin regained momentum in singles play, taking the first set on four courts. On court one, No. 5 Maria Sholokhova defeated No. 57 C. Gomez 6-1, 6-3, while Taylor Cataldi took down Bienzobas, 7-1, 6-4. Koskel brought one back for the Hogs, beating Ekaterina Ivanova 7-5, 6-1 on court three. The Badgers responded with a win on court four, where Ellison Reynoldson beat O’Donnell 7-6, 6-2. Pavlechova faced Kája Jacobson and won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 to tie the match at three. Wisconsin secured the final point of the match on court six as Ariel Johnson bested J. Gomez, 6-3, 6-4.
Arkansas is back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m. to face Kansas.
