Arkansas Opens SEC Play with Auburn Friday
The Razorback volleyball team begins its non-conference slate at home this week as the Hogs host the Auburn Tigers on Sept. 25.
It’s the first home match in nearly a month for the Hogs after they hosted the Razorback Invitational to open the season in August. Arkansas started out 3-0 after that weekend and concluded the non-conference portion of the schedule with an 8-3 record.
Auburn heads into the matchup with a 10-2 record, and its only two losses so far came against ranked teams: No. 11 Minnesota on Sept. 2 and No. 5 Wisconsin on Sept. 3.
While Auburn is checking in at 10th in hitting percentage in the SEC, the Tigers are holding opponents to the lowest of any SEC teams, .160. Auburn is also in the top half of the SEC in assists per set (12.35), kills per set (13.74) and digs per set (13.98)
Arkansas has an advantage over Auburn in blocks per set at 2.77 versus 2.35, with the Hogs coming in at second in the SEC in the metric. The Razorbacks have also totaled 1.57 aces per set, just above Auburn at 1.56.
The Razorbacks are 44-13 all-time against Auburn, 23-4 in Fayetteville. Arkansas is 4-1 in its SEC openers over the last five seasons, 7-3 in head coach Jason Watson’s tenure.
Friday’s match — 9/25 — is Dolly Parton Night at the Barn, with poster and sticker giveaways and Dolly’s greatest hits on the speakers. Tickets are available online or in person via Razorback Ticket Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the action will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
