Arkansas Picks Up First SEC Win, Downs No. 69 Missouri, 4-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-8, 1-4) upset the No. 69 Missouri Tigers (10-5, 1-4), to secure its first SEC win of the season, with a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Razorbacks grabbed the early advantage following wins on courts one and three. At the No. 1 position, Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez earned their fifth victory together this spring after a 6-1 win over Mary Brumfield and Korina Roso. The duo of Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova snagged a 6-4 win over victory over Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar to clinch the doubles point for the Hogs.

Koskel collected a 6-1, 6-1 sweep over Bashir on court four to extend the lead for Arkansas to open singles play. Missouri bounced back with a win at the No. 6 position, with J. Gomez falling to Roso, 2-6, 4-6. Bienzobas gave the Razorbacks a 3-1 lead with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Canete on court two. Pavlechova clinched the match for the Hogs after a 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory against Lazar at the No. 3 position to close out the first conference win for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks look forward to two more home conference matches next weekend at Billingsley Tennis Center against No. 6 Tennessee on Friday, March 14 and No. 58 Kentucky on Sunday, March 16.
