
Arkansas Set to Host No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 69 Missouri
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-7, 0-3) starts its four-match homestand with a pair of SEC contests at Billingsley Tennis Center this weekend. The Razorbacks face No. 16 Vanderbilt (10-1, 3-0) on Friday, March 7 at 5 p.m. and No. 69 Missouri (10-3. 1-2) on Sunday, March 9 at noon.
No. 55 Carolina Gomez took a big jump in the ITA singles rankings this week, rising 38 spots from No. 93 after a dominant win over then-No. 12 Julia Garcia Ruiz in the match against Oklahoma.
The No. 16 Commodores have started the year 10-1 and are 3-0 in SEC play, defeating No. 69 Missouri, No. 57 Mississippi State and No. 17 Alabama. Vanderbilt is led by senior No. 44 Celia Belle Mohr and junior No. 119 Valeria Ray at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Ray has earned a team-leading 11 singles wins this spring, with an 11-0 record so far. The singles lineup for the Commodores also features No. 35 Bridget Stammel and Sonya Macavei. No. 9 Mohr and Sophia Webster lead the doubles lineup with five dual wins.
The No. 69 Tigers are off to a 10-3 start this year and are 1-2 in SEC play after a win over No. 57 Mississippi State last weekend. Missouri will play at No. 14 Oklahoma on Friday before its match against the Hogs on Sunday. The singles lineup for the Tigers is headlined by Mary Brumfield at the top spot and Ina Canete on court two. The duo has a combined 8-5 singles record to begin the dual season. Canete and Korina Roso lead the team with six doubles wins together so far.
