Arkansas Sweeps Memphis, Earns Fifth Straight Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (9-2) earned its fifth straight win after a 4-0 sweep against Memphis (2-6) Friday evening at Leftwich Tennis Center.

In doubles play, the Razorbacks took the early advantage after a victory on three, as Benni Emesz and Marino Jakic defeated Carvalho/Kouame, 6-3. The Tigers responded with Alemany/Kudernatsch grabbing a 6-3 win over Božo Barun and Lukas Palovic at the No. 2 position. The doubles point came down to court one as Connor Smillie Jakub Vrba secured their first ranked victory of the season to clinch the point for the Hogs with a 6-4 win against No. 59 Gannon/Reeve.

Emesz obtained his fourth singles victory of the spring after a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kouame at the No. 5 position. Jakic followed with a come-from-behind victory against Kudernatsch on court three, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Vrba remained perfect and collected his seventh dual win to clinch the sweep for Arkansas after a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory over Reeve at the No. 4 position.

Arthur Bellegy claimed the first set on court six before his match went unfinished in the second set. Palovic rebounded from a first set defeat to push his match to a third set at the No. 2 position before the match was abandoned. Barun dropped a narrow tiebreak in the first set, 6-7 (7), and was tied 4-4 in the second set before the match concluded.

The Hogs remain in The Volunteer State for the second part of their road stint on Sunday, Feb. 9 to face MTSU at 12 p.m. in Murfreesboro and Tennessee State at 6 p.m. in Nashville.
