Arkansas Ties for 8th at CABO Collegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico – Arkansas had two golfers finish among the top 20 and the #48 Razorbacks tied for eighth (873) at the CABO Collegiate, played at Twin Dolphin Club (par 71, 7,156 yards).

Overall, the 15-team field had 13 of the nation’s top 50 programs. Top-ranked Vanderbilt defended its title from last year, posting an 18-under-par 834, and came away with a 12-stroke victory over runner-up and #44 Ole Miss (846). Rounding out the top six were #3 Arizona State (851), #2 Texas Tech (854), #9 Florida State (860), #23 Baylor (871) and #19 Arizona (871).

Arkansas tied #4 Stanford for eighth and finished ahead of #50 Houston, #14 Tennessee, #18 Oklahoma State and #17 Alabama.

Arkansas was led by fifth-year senior Julian Perico, who posted his fourth top-15 finish at the event. He carded a 74 in the final round and tied for 15th with a 54-hole total of 215 (+2). Perico turned in 39 pars, which was one shy of tournament leader. Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira cut nine strokes off his second-round score to shoot a 1-over-par 72 and tied for 19th (216). It was his second top 20 finish at CABO in as many years.

Wil Gibson tied for 44th (75-71-76=222) and had 37 pars, which was the fourth-best total in the field. Christian Castillo, playing as an individual, was one stroke behind Gibson and tied for 48th.

Segundo Oliva Pinto tied for 60th. Manuel Lozada, who shot 73 in the final round, tied for 65th with teammate Matthew Griggs. Denver Davis tied for 67th.

Arkansas will take two weeks off and return to action Mar. 19-21 at the Linger Longer Invitational, played at Reynolds Plantation (Ga.) Great Waters Golf Club.
