Ayden Owens-Delerme first day leader at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. – A crew of Razorbacks competing in the decathlon at the 64th Mt. SAC Relays produced three scores over 4,100 points after completing the five events contested on the first day. The overall leader is Arkansas alum Ayden Owens-Delerme at 4,621.

Razorback Jack Turner, who is competing in the Invitational division of the decathlon along Owens-Delerme, has a first day score of 4,189 points and is in sixth place. Turner produced three career best marks among the day 1 events: 10.61 in the 100m (949 points), 44-8.25 (13.62) in shot put (705), and 47.60 in the 400m (929).

Razorback Yariel Soto Torrado is currently in second place among the group B decathlon with a first day score of 4,157 points. Miami’s Edgar Campre leads the field with 4,190 points. Arkansas alum Daniel Spejcher scored 3,973 points and is in fifth place.

Owens-Delerme, who has been training in Puerto Rico, sprinted to a 10.31 victory in the 100m to open his account with 1,020 points. He was just off his career best of 10.27 set during the 2022 decathlon at Mt. SAC.

A third round leap of 25-6 (7.77) by Owens-Delerme topped the field in the long jump and collected 1,002 points. Turner was fifth best with a 24-6.5 (7.47) to score 927 points.

Owens-Delerme generated a career best shot put with a distance of 53-4.25 (16.26) to score 867 points, keeping him in the overall lead with 2,889 points. A 6-6 (1.98) high jump followed for Owens-Delerme for 785 points while Turner cleared 6-1.25 (1.86) to pick up 679.

Finishing the first day with the 400m, Owens-Delerme was second fastest in the field with a 47.23 with Turner third in 47.60. Adding 947 points gave Owens-Delerme his first day tally of 4,621 points.

Trailing by 152 points, Heath Baldwin of Michigan State is currently in second place at 4,469 while Iowa’s Austin West is third at 4,392.

Opening the decathlon in the 100m, Soto Torrado produced the second best time with a 10.76 for 915 points. Then he led the field in the long jump with a leap of 24-7.25 (7.50) for 935 points.

Spejcher produced the top shot put mark with a toss of 49-1 (14.96) to score 787 points while Soto Torrado was eighth with a 44-3.5 (13.50) for 698 points. In the high jump, Soto Torrado picked up 705 points by clearing 6-2.25 (1.89).

Soto Torrado finished day 1 with by equaling his career best in the 400m with a time of 48.10 to score 904 points.

In the heptathlon, Arkansas alum Alex Gochenour-Brondyke is currently in sixth place with 3,630 points from four events. Michelle Atherley leads the field with 3,825 points.

Marks by Gochenour-Brondyke in the first four events included 13.49 in the 100m hurdles (1,052 points), 5-7 (1.70) in the high jump (855), 46-1.5 (14.06) in the shot put (798), and 24.59 in the 200 (925).
