Ayora Leads Hogs in First Round of SEC Championship
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Arkansas women’s golf team is looking to make a big move in the standings going into the second day of the SEC Women’s Golf Championship. After the first round, Arkansas is in 14th place at 18-over par with a 306. Halfway through the round, Arkansas was steady in the middle, but found some trouble in their final nine holes along the front nine. Arkansas is eight strokes behind 13th-place Missouri, while Vanderbilt holds the lead after shooting an even-par 288.
Miriam Ayora paces the Hogs after shooting a 3-over 75 in the first round. She delivered an eagle on hole three, one of two on the day to have one, and a birdie on the 18th hole, as well as 11 pars. Ayora is in a tie for 36th and boasts the third best par 5s average at 4.50.
Playing at the No. 2 spot, Kajal Mistry is in a tie for 47th with a 4-over 76. She did that with two birdies and six bogeys, while shooting 1-over in the front nine.
Tied with Mistry, Meghan Royal also shot a 4-over 76 on Wednesday. She had two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in her final hole at nine. She was 1-over heading into the front nine.
Julia Gregg had a fantastic outing in the back nine and sat 1-under going into hole three. After a triple bogey on No. 3, Gregg then had three bogeys and a double bogey to finish with a 7-over 79. She is tied for 64th with Reagan Zibilski, who also got off to a great start on the afternoon. She was 1-over through the back nine, but after a double bogey on the par 3 at the second hole, she had four bogeys among the final six holes. Zibilski logged three birdies in the first round.
