Brian Masai breaks 27-year-old UA record in 1,500m at Twilight

FAYETTEVILLE – Razorback Brian Masai broke a 27-year-old Arkansas record in the 1,500m with a runner-up time of 3 minutes, 33.17 seconds that highlighted performances delivered at the Arkansas Twilight on Friday.

Masai is equal No. 3 on the all-time collegiate list with Trent McFarland of Michigan. Oregon’s Simeon Birnbaum broke the collegiate record earlier this outdoor season with a 3:31.69 while a 3:33.02 by Villanova’s Liam Murphy ranks No. 2.

Seneca Lassiter’s 3:33.27 has been the UA 1,500m record since 1999.

Former Oklahoma State runner Fouad Messaoudi of Morrocco bettered his meet and facility record of 3:34.34 set last season with a winning time of 3:32.25. Following Masai’s stellar performance, another former Cowboy Ryan Shoppe finished third in 3:34.72.

The performances by Messaoudi and Masai rank third and equal fifth on the 2026 world list.

In the 200m, Jelani Watkins won the race with an outdoor career best of 20.12 (+1.1 wind) that ranks him No. 4 on the UA all-time list. Following were Razorbacks Steven McElroy, third in 20.57, along with Dapriest Hogans, sixth in 20.67.

A 10.28 (+1.1 wind) victory was posted by Tevijon Williams in the 100m while Juriad Hughes claimed another section in 10.49 (+1.0 wind).

Arkansas alum Chris Bailey broke the meet record and equaled the facility record in the 400m with a 44.60 performance. Razorback Jordan Pierre finished behind Bailey in second place with an outdoor career best of 44.97 that ranks No. 6 on the UA all-time list. Zander Cruzan finished fourth in 46.54.

Bailey bettered the previous meet record of 45.58 set by TJ Tomlyanovich in 2025 and equaled the facility record of 44.60 set by South Carolina’s Quincy Hall in 2019.

Arkansas closed out the meet with a 3:08.69 win the 4 x 400m relay with Tomlyanovich, Devryn Wright, Steven McElroy, and Jamarion Stubbs.

As runner-up in the 110m hurdles, Abdoul Sy-Savane clocked a career best of 13.52 (+1.4) that moves him to equal No. 7 on the UA all-time list. Teammate Karamoko Sacko finished third in 13.89.

Link Lindey finished runner-up in the long jump with a windy leap of 25-2 (7.67) [+2.7 wind] behind a windy mark of 25-3.25 (7.70) by Jammel Ward of East Texas A&M.

Josh Rammage set a career best of 1:47.30 in the 800m to place fourth while Wyatt Green finished eighth in 1:54.54. In other sections of the 1,500m, Dawson Welch set a PR of 3:46.12 while Eli Seavey produced a PR of 3:53.34.
