Coach Ruqayya Gibson serves as an assistant track and field coach at the University of Arkansas, bringing more than 15 years of coaching experience and a proven record of excellence in developing student-athletes both on and off the track.
Prior to Arkansas, Gibson served as the Assistant Sprints and Hurdles Coach at the University of Alabama, where she coached numerous student-athletes to All-America honors and all-time top-10 performances in program history.
Before her tenure at Alabama, she was the Assistant Sprints and Jumps Coach at the University of Houston, helping coach multiple All-Americans, including the school-record 4×100-meter relay team and four Olympians.
Throughout her collegiate coaching career, Gibson has coached 14 conference champions, numerous All-Americans, and multiple international champions, including a Barbados National Champion and National Record Holder, as well as a Mexico National Champion and National Record Holder.
In addition to her collegiate experience, Gibson spent nine years as the head coach of the nationally ranked program at Cypress Springs High School, an experience that helped shape her long-term approach to athlete development.
Gibson is known for her holistic coaching philosophy, emphasizing elite performance, personal growth, and sustained success. At Arkansas, she assists with the Razorbacks’ sprints and middle-distance programs while also directing team operations.
