Fast 800m times for Razorbacks at John McDonnell Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE – Razorbacks Rivaldo Marshall and Tyrice Taylor registered a pair of fast times to place second and third in the Invitational 800m on Friday evening at the John McDonnell Invitational.
Marshall produced a career best of 1:44.15 that ranks No. 2 on the UA all-time list and No. 6 on the collegiate all-time list. Taylor, who has a career best of 1:43.74 from summer of 2025 that serves as the Arkansas school record, posted a 1:44.74 in third place.
Raynier Galvez of Indian Hills CC won the race in 1:44.14 and ranks No. 5 on the all-time collegiate list as he broke the NJCAA record by a full second. The previous junior college record of 1:45.15 was set in 2008 by Boaz Lalang of Rend Lake CC.
Galvez also bettered the meet and facility records in the process. The previous meet record of 1:46.96 was set by Razorback Carlton Orange in 2016 while the facility record of 1:44.65 was set at the 2022 NCAA West meet by Moad Zahafi of Texas Tech.
Arkansas 400m runner TJ Tomlyanovich paced the field through the first lap in 49.88 as Marshall (50.02), Taylor (50.11), and Galvez (50.29) followed. As they moved through 600m in 1:16, Marshall and Taylor maintained their position ahead of Galvez.
In the homestretch, Galvez moved to challenge Marshall and covered the second lap in 53.85 while Marshall countered in 54.13 and Taylor went 54.63. Razorback Owan Logorodi set a career best of 1:47.78 in fourth place while Josh Rammage clocked 1:48.63 in sixth place.
Galvez and Marshall currently rank fourth and fifth on the 2026 world list. Galvez is the current collegiate leader for this season while Marshall is the Division 1 leader over a 1:44.24 set last week at the Bryan Clay Invitational by Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona.
Marshall moves to No. 3 performer on the Jamaica all-time list behind a 1:42.76 by Navasky Anderson and 1:43.74 by Taylor.
Arkansas capped the evening with a 3:03.79 meet record victory in the 4 x 400m relay while a second Razorback crew placed second in 3:04.47. The previous meet record of 3:04.35 was set by Arkansas in 2023.
The winning crew consisted of Zander Cruzan (46.73), Devyn Wright (44.64), Jordan Pierre (46.09), and Steven McElroy (46.33). The runner-up squad included Jamarion Stubbs (46.48), Dapriest Hogans (46.31), Jelani Watkins (46.34), and Tevijon Williams (45.34).
Earlier in the meet McElroy won the 400m in 45.77 over a 45.89 by Caden Williams of Pittsburg State. Williams claimed the 200m in a career best of 20.45 (1.8 wind) with teammates Hogans (20.62) and Stubbs (20.71) finishing second and third. Arkansas alum Chris Bailey placed fourth in a career best of 20.72.
In the 110m hurdles Abdoul Sy-Savane and Jerome Campbell finished 1-2 in 13.53 and 13.54 with a 0.0 wind reading. In the 100m, with a +3.0 wind, Hogans ran 10.23w with Campbell at 10.28w as they placed fourth and fifth.
Juriad Hughes won the long jump with a mark of 25-3.25 (7.70) as Link Lindsey placed fifth at 23-11.5 (7.30).
