Former Hog Gajjar wins title
FAYETTEVILLE – Former University of Arkansas Razorback men’s tennis star Rohan Gajjar won the singles title at the Malaysia F2 Futures tournament on July 4 in Ku, Mal.
He defeated Kaden Hensel of Australia to take the championship title in a straight set victory.
Gajjar, from Mumbia, India, played for the Razorbacks from 2003-2006 under head coach Robert Cox. He helped the Hogs earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2006. The 2004 squad advanced to the round of 16 while the 2006 team advanced to the second round.
"I am incredibly proud of Rohan," Cox says. "He is an excellent player and I wish him the best. It is always rewarding to hear about one of your former players having great success."
In the opening round of play, Gajjar, who was first-team All-SEC in 2005, defeated Peerakit Siributwong of Thailand in a three-setter, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. He followed with wins over Jae Cho of Korea, Andrew Thomas of Australia and Ranjeet Virali-Murugesan in the semifinals.
In the finals, Gajjar faced third-seeded Hensel from Australia, taking the title in straight sets, 7-6 (2), 6-1.
