Fortlage and Gomez Named All-Central Region

NORMAN, Okla. – Razorback sophomores Erich Fortlage and Gerardo Gomez have been tabbed to the NCAA Division I PING All-Central Region team, as named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

In the 20 years of the Brad McMakin era at Arkansas, Fortlage and Gomez are the 20th and 21st Razorbacks to earn GCAA All-Region. All told, McMakin’s players have earned a total of 37 All-Region honors.

Fortlage and Gomez also earned second team All-SEC honors this season. The duo rank 1-2 in almost every statistical category for the Hogs, including each with four top-5 finishes and 13 rounds in the 60s.

Fortlage:

  • leads the team in scoring average (70.51), top 10 finishes (6), top 20 finishes (8), 25 rounds at par or better, being low man for a round 12 times, low man for an event five times and having 30 of his 33 rounds count to the team score.
  • in fact, set a school season record with 25 rounds at par or better.
  • currently ranks third on the school’s season stroke average list at 70.51.
  • currently ranks third on the school’s career stroke average list at 71.60.

Gomez:

  • ranks second on the team in scoring average (70.60), top 10 finishes (4), top 20 finishes (7), 20 rounds at par or better, being low man for a round 11 times, low man for an event four times and having 25 of his rounds count to the team score.
  • currently ranks fourth on the school’s season stroke average list at 70.60.
  • currently ranks fourth on the school’s career stroke average list at 71.69.
  • shot below par in 11 of his 12 rounds leading into the NCAA Championship and had a 68.9 stroke average over the span.
