Gibson Garners SEC Player of the Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas infielder Danielle Gibson has been named SEC Player of the Week for Week Six of the season, the conference office announced Tuesday. Gibson’s honor marks the second straight week a Razorback has won the award after infielder Braxton Burnside was recognized last week.

Gibson hit .400 for the week and clubbed a solo walk-off home run in the eighth inning on Saturday to defeat Ole Miss, 3-2. She totaled six hits, three doubles, three RBI, three runs scored and a walk over four games. On Friday against the Rebels, she was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and hit the first of her three doubles on the weekend. In game two of the series, she accounted for two of the team’s three RBI, smacking the walk-off homer and the game-tying double in the sixth inning as Arkansas came back from a 2-0 deficit. She scored the team’s first run in the sixth inning of the series finale on Sunday, darting home on a wild pitch. Gibson was also intentionally walked and hit her nation-leading 13th double of the season in the game.

The Murrieta, Calif. product captured SEC Player of the Week recognition for the second time in her career, and last earned it in 2019 when she became just the second player in the sport’s history to hit for a home run cycle.

The Razorbacks play a pair of midweek games on Tuesday, March 23 at Kansas City and Wednesday, March 24 at Kansas before hosting Mississippi State, Friday, March 26 through Sunday, March 28.
