Gomez-Alonso in Quarterfinals at ITF Hilton Head 15K
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team’s Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez-Alonso completed the second day of the ITF Hilton Head 15K with Gomez-Alonso advancing on to the singles main draw quarterfinal.
Both Razorbacks got the day started with the Round of 16 singles main draw, competing for a spot in the quarterfinals. Senior Kelly Keller faced Ange Oby Kajuru of Iowa State in an all-out three-set battle. Keller won the first set 6-3, dropping the next 6-1. The third set was back and forth with Keller falling 4-6 to drop the match.
Freshman Carolina Gomez-Alonso was in an intense match herself with Virginia Tech’s Ozlem Uslu. Gomez-Alonso dropped a first-set tiebreaker 5-7, but came back and took the next two sets, both 6-3, to win the match. Carolina will face Ange Oby Kajuru tomorrow with a semifinal spot on the line.
In doubles, Keller and Gomez-Alonso teamed up against the No.1 seed, Paris Corley and Lexington Reed. It was a tough matchup, but the Razorbacks held their own, ultimately falling 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
