Gomez Alonso, Koskel Conclude Play at the ITF 15K Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team’s Carolina Gomez Alonso and Anet Koskel competed in the ITF 15K Jackson with Gomez Alonso advancing to the Quarterfinals of the singles main draw.

Gomez Alonso started out the tournament in the singles main draw, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 opening round win over Chieh-Yu Hsu on Tuesday. In the next round, she faced off against Monika Ekstrand, defeating her in straight sets. In her quarterfinal match, Gomez Alonso dropped the first set against Ayumi Miyamoto but rebounded to win second, forcing a winner-take-all third set. Miyamoto came out on top in the final set, ending Gomez Alonso’s run in the main draw in Jackson.

Anet Koskel competed in the singles qualifying draw to begin the event on Monday, falling in the first round to Maria Tatarnikova in straight sets.

Members of the Arkansas women’s tennis team will continue the fall season at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational which runs from November 3-5.
