Gomez Alonso Named to All-SEC First Team
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Carolina Gomez Alonso was named to the All-SEC First Team as announced by the league Wednesday. Gomez Alonso is the first Razorback to earn All-SEC honors in consecutive seasons since Yuliya Lysa in 2015-16.
During her fall campaign, Gomez Alonso advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships in October, defeating two top-50 opponents before falling in three sets to No. 3 Alexa Noel (Miami).
The Madrid, Spain, native posted a 13-7 singles record at the No. 1 position for Arkansas, going 5-5 against ranked opponents this season. Gomez Alonso collected the highest ranked win of her career after a straight-set victory against No. 11 Celia-Belle Mohr (Vanderbilt) while achieving a career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 26 this spring. The sophomore clinched wins for the Hogs over No. 38 Ole Miss, No. 46 Kansas, Mississippi State, Missouri State, and Tulsa.
Gomez Alonso ended the season on a three-match winning streak and is ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA singles rankings. In doubles, Gomez Alonso and partner Kelly Keller compiled a 9-6 record at the No. 3 position for Arkansas, ending the spring on a four-match winning streak and securing victories in seven of their last eight matches.
First-team and second-team All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year were chosen by the league’s 14 coaches.
The Razorbacks await their postseason fate as the NCAA Selection Show will be streamed on NCAA.com on Monday, May 2, at 5:30 p.m. CT.
