Hogs battle No. 8 Michigan State to a draw
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 9 Arkansas picked up its first draw of the season after a 2-2 physical battle from start to finish with No. 8 Michigan State (1-1-0).
The Hogs (1-1-0) racked up 22 fouls and six yellow cards and had to play the final 20 minutes down a player after Avery Wren added a second card. The match featured a total of 34 fouls and seven cards.
Despite the physical nature of the match, the Razorbacks managed to net two goals on 10 shots in the country’s first top 10 matchup of the season.
Forward Kate Doyle got Arkansas on the board three minutes after the Spartans opened the scoring in the 21st minute. She redirected a pass from Bella Field with her right foot for her second goal in as many matches.
Midfielder Zoe Susi also got her second goal of the season to give the Razorbacks the lead early in the second half. Susi, who was wide open in the penalty box, linked with Kiley Dulaney’s service into the box for a low right-footed shot towards the near post.
The Spartans tied the match in the 55th minute to close the scoring but had a few chances to take the lead down the stretch. However, Arkansas’ defensive third stepped up with clearances and saves while down to 10 players.
Freshman goalkeeper Keegan Smith shined between the pipes in her first collegiate start with seven crucial saves.
