Hogs Bounce Back with Doubleheader Sweep of Tulsa, Missouri State
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (5-3) bounced back from their three-game skid with an impressive sweep in their doubleheader against Tulsa (5-5) and Missouri State (3-4) on Friday at Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks took the early lead in the opening match versus Tulsa with a doubles sweep. Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell teamed up to earn a dominant 6-2 win on court two, while Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel grabbed a 6-3 victory to secure the doubles point for the Hogs. Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez Alonso’s match went unfinished with the Arkansas duo ahead 5-4.
Anet Koskel started out strong in singles play, cruising to a 6-4, 6-0 win on court six while Cross followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 position. The Golden Hurricane claimed their only point of the match on court three as Lily Hutchings defeated Stara in straight sets. The Razorbacks responded with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win from No. 79 Gomez Alonso at the No. 1 position to clinch the match.
The Hogs carried their momentum over into the second match against Missouri State, grabbing the doubles point again with victories on courts one and three. Keller and Gomez Alonso struck first at the No. 3 position with a 6-1 win, followed by a 6-3 victory from Cross and Koskel in the top spot to earn the first point of the match. Stara and O’Donnell’s match went unfinished with the Arkansas duo ahead 5-3.
In singles play, the Razorbacks continued to roll by taking the first set on all six courts. At the No. 2 position, Stara defeated Houston 6-1, 6-1, while Kacie Harvey took down Robinson 6-2, 6-1. The Hogs secured the final point of the match on court one as No. 79 Gomez Alonso bested Flaquer 6-4, 6-1.
Arkansas returns to Billingsley Tennis Center next week for a pair of matches against Kansas on Friday, Feb. 23 and Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 25.
