Hogs Fall to Clemson, 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas soccer (0-3-1) suffered its third loss of the season on Thursday night to Clemson, 1-0, at Razorback Field.

The Hogs had their strongest start of the season and earned three corner kicks and forced a save on Tiger goalkeeper Nona Reason, all before the 15-minute mark.

Arkansas managed to pull Reason off her line in the 44th minute with a pair of shots from defender Madden McDonald and midfielder Molly Teed but did not take advantage of the open goal.

The Hogs outshot the Tigers 5-2 in the half and goalkeeper Keegan Smith did not record a save.

Arkansas’ best look at goal occurred in the 62nd minute when senior midfielder Sabrina Jones’ attempted cross took a deflection off the hand of Tiger midfielder Anna Castenfelt inside the penalty box. Following a successful challenge by the Hogs, a penalty was awarded and senior midfielder Kennedy Ball was tasked with the attempt. Ball fired low and to her right, into the hands of a diving Reason.

It was the Razorbacks’ first missed penalty of the year on two attempts.

The Tigers (2-1-3) took the lead seven minutes later when forward Reagan Thompson dribbled from outside the 18-yard box to inside the 6-yard box and beat her defender to create space behind to an open Ella Bach at the top of the six. Bach took one touch, then took a sliding shot over the head of a diving Smith and into the back of the net.

Arkansas had two shots following the goal, both off target.

Clemson finished ahead in shots, 10-9, and Arkansas won the corner battle 8-2. Both goalkeepers made three saves.
