Hogs Fall to Liberty, Will Face Troy on Thursday

CHEROKEE, N.C. –  Arkansas women’s basketball fell to 6-7 on the season after a 75-61 loss to Liberty on Wednesday night in the Cherokee Invitational.

The Hogs got off to a slow start and were down by 17 points to begin the game but outscored the Flames 23-12 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to six by halftime.

Arkansas grabbed its first lead in the third quarter via a Phoenix Stotijn three pointer with 4:37 remaining. The two teams swapped leads once more in the early stages of the final quarter but the Flames took control with a 21-6 run to close out the game. The Razorbacks led for only :58.

Senior guard Izzy Higginbottom led all scorers with 24 points, her ninth game with at least 20 points this season. The Batesville, Ark. native remained atop the SEC and ranks fourth in the NCAA in scoring, averaging 23.7 points per game.

Liberty was led by guard Jordan Hodges (18 points) and center Bella Smuda (16 points, 8 rebounds).

Arkansas will take the floor tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. CT and face Troy (5-6) for third place in the Cherokee Invitational. The game will be streamed on StadiumTV with Taylor Stolworthy and Shawn Crowe on the call. Troy lost to Toledo, 70-62, in the tournament’s opening game on Wednesday night.
