Hogs Fall to No. 32 Ole Miss, 4-0

OXFORD, Miss. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-16, 1-12) dropped its road match to No. 32 Ole Miss (13-10, 5-8), falling 4-0 Sunday afternoon at William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.

The Rebels took the lead after grabbing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Soulie/Welker struck first with a 6-0 victory over Jimena Gomez Alonso and Katarina Pavlechova at the No. 3 position, while No. 28 Kareisova/Leclercq-Ficher clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win against No. 44 Olga Bienzobas/Carolina Gomez in the top spot. Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell’s match on court two went unfinished with the Razorback duo trailing 3-5 to Nova/Olson.

Ole Miss carried its momentum into singles play, collecting the first set on five courts. At the No. 3 position, Petruzelova defeated Pavlechova, 6-2, 6-2, while Leclercq-Ficher posted a straight-set victory over Koskel on court five. The Rebels secured the final point of the match at the No. 4 position as Soulie held off a comeback attempt from O’Donnell, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0.

J. Gomez claimed the first set against Nova on court six and led 4-3 in the second set before her match went unfinished. Bienzobas fought back to force a third set versus No. 112 Kareisova at the No. 2 position and trailed 0-1 in the final set as her match was abandoned. No. 66 C. Gomez dropped the first set to Welker in the top spot and was trailing 4-2 in the next set before her match concluded.

The Hogs return to Billingsley Tennis Center next weekend for their final two home matches of the season as they take on No. 33 Alabama on Friday, April 11 and No. 73 Mississippi State on Sunday, April 13.
