Hogs in Third After 18 Holes at NCAA Regionals

 PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Arkansas women’s golf team put together a solid round on the first day of the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional, as the Hogs sit in third after shooting a 9-over 297. Arkansas is one shot behind second-place South Florida (8-over 296), while Michigan State is pacing the way as the only team under par at 3-under 285.

Julia Gregg paces the Hogs after carding a 1-over 73 on Monday. Sitting in a tie for 11th among 66 golfers and four shots behind the lead, Gregg logged three birdies and four bogeys, coming up with four pars in the final four holes. She averaged the second-best par 3s average (2.75) on the day.

Kajal Mistry was 2-over through the front nine holes and even in the back nine to finish with a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 16th. Mistry had a round-high six birdies, including five on the back nine along with five bogeys. The senior’s best golf came on par 5s, where she put up the fifth best average at 4.50.

Miriam Ayora and Reagan Zibilski are in a tie for 25th with a 3-over 75. Ayora was even through the front nine and finished 3-over after a double bogey on 11 and two bogeys on 17 and 18. She ended the day with two birdies and 12 pars.

Zibilski had two birdies, 13 pars and two bogeys, as well as a triple bogey on hole nine. The freshman recovered well following the hiccup on the ninth hole, as she went bogey free through her final six holes. Zibilski finished with a tie for the second-best par 3s average with 2.75 and tied for the sixth most pars with 13.

Ela Anacona is in a tie for 46th after shooting a 6-over 78. She had 13 pars, four bogeys and a double bogey on the seventh hole. Anacona’s 13 pars was the sixth most on the day.

The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Arkansas looks to maintain its position as one of the top squads, as the Hogs are in third with 36 holes to play. Arkansas had the third best par 3s average (3.15), as well as the fourth most birdies (13) among the field on the first day.
