Hogs Open SEC Tournament Against No. 35 Georgia
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 31 Arkansas men’s tennis team (20-10, 5-7) travels to Baton Rouge, La., to begin postseason play at the SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament. The Razorbacks earned the No. 9 seed in the tournament and will face No. 8 seed (No. 35 ITA) Georgia (14-12, 5-7) in the second round on Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m.
The Hogs and Bulldogs met earlier this season on March 24th, as Georgia defeated Arkansas 4-0 in Athens, Ga. The Razorbacks ended the regular season winning four of their last five SEC contests and six of their last seven overall.
Arkansas comes in at No. 31 in the latest ITA rankings with the doubles duo of Božo Barun and Jared Horwood sitting at No. 30 in the ITA doubles rankings. Gerard Planelles Ripoll comes in at No. 104 in the ITA singles rankings while Stefanos Savva leads the team in singles victories, posting a 16-7 record this dual season.
No. 35 Georgia closed out its regular season with a 4-3 win over No. 44 Vanderbilt and a 4-2 victory against Tennessee Tech on Sunday, moving to 14-12 overall and 5-7 in SEC play. The Bulldogs have two ranked singles players in No. 50 Thomas Paulsell and No. 68 Ryan Colby as well as two ranked doubles pairs with the tandem of Freddy Blaydes and Niels Ratiu coming in at No. 28 while Colby and Paulsell sit at No. 88.
The winner of the Georgia/Arkansas match will face top-seeded Kentucky on Friday, April 19, at 6 p.m.
