Day One Results | Start Lists

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On Friday night the Randal Tyson Track was burning up off the heels of several fast heats of the 200-meter dash which featured two top sprinters from the No. 5 Arkansas men’s track and field squad. All-Americans Josh Washington and Kenzo Cotton had two of the best performances of the night, clocking 20.71 and 20.84, respectively, to finish among the top-five fastest sprinters of the night in the talent-stacked event.

Racing to the inside of Texas A&M senior Fred Kerley, Washington closed in on the dynamic sprinter over the first 100 meters, making up the initial stagger. Shooting around the steep bank, Washington rode the final turn down, using the momentum to push him through to a new lifetime best and program top-10 time.

In the field events, resident record breaker Erich Sullins was back at it again, shattering his previous weight throw best by over a foot with a heave of 18.94m/62-1 3/4. Opening the meet with a 60-foot range toss, Sullins improved by 11 inches on his second attempt to solidify his spot in the finals. He took advantage of his extra three attempts, breaking his eight-place tie with Matt Zajac of Tennessee to move up one spot in the final standings.

“I can’t predict what is going to happen tomorrow but if it’s any indication what we saw tonight our team will remain focused and ready to,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “We ended up having some personal bests and winning (racing) a very good DMR against two competitive teams in Oklahoma State and Mississippi. We’re still shaking the rust off in a couple of events but all-in-all our athletes are dialed in and we look to continue that trend tomorrow.”
