Hogs Remain in First After Second Round at Blessings Collegiate
FAYETTEVILLE – No. 8 Arkansas extended its team lead to 18 shots after completing the second round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational 5-over par. The Hogs are the only team in the field under par (-4) through the first two rounds.
Team
The Razorbacks teed off at 10:15 a.m. from hole No. 10 and collected two birdies to begin the day via Maria José Marin and Reagan Zibilski. Zibilski went on to holes 11 and 12 and finished the back nine 2-under par. Four Hogs birdied the par-4 twelfth hole, key to keeping the squad 1-under par halfway through the round.
Zibilski tallied the best round of the day and finished -1 and sits three shots behind José Marin (-6, 1st), the tournament’s leader through two rounds. Clarisa Temelo (+2, 7th) and Kendall Todd (+3, 8th) round out Arkansas’ contenders in the top 10.
Freshman Anna Kate Nichols (+11, T35) beat her first-round score of 80 with a 75. Nichols birdied holes 6 and 15.
The Hogs finished with 17 birdies on the day despite a tough round for all ten teams.
Individuals
Giovanna Fernandez (+7, T-18th), the Hogs’ highest-placed individual in the field, remained in the top 20 through two rounds. Fernandez recorded a 39 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine and birdied 6, 8 and 18. Freshman Natalie Blonien matched her round one score of 76 in round two despite birdieing once, on the par-5 15th hole.
